Most of us tend to eat a high protein dinner and almost nothing for breakfast. Our Colonoscopy Beverly Hills office suggests you increase protein intake across all three daily meals. Combine this with healthy snacks before and after our workout routines, and you will begin to see significant results.
Nutritional experts agree that a 150-pound man should be getting a recommended daily allowance of 56 grams of protein, but recent medical research suggests that doubling or even tripling this number might be better. This can help men burn body fat at a much faster pace as well as help to maintain or even boost muscle mass levels. So if “more” protein is “better”, then how do we fit all of this extra protein into our daily diet without adding extra effort? Here are some simple food choices that pack loads of protein into a very tiny package.
Cottage Cheese
Many of us prefer Greek yogurt to the bland flavor of cottage cheese, but some brands of cottage cheese are actually much higher in protein than any Greek yogurt on the shelf. The “Daisy” brand provides 13 g more protein per every ½ cup serving than any brand of Greek Yogurt, which usually also has about 4 times the sugar hidden inside as well.
Almonds
One handful of almonds is packed with over 6 grams of protein. Almonds are easy to carry, never go stale or spoil, and are high in fiber and vitamins B and E. Our colonoscopy Beverly Hills office suggests slicing them up and mixing them into cottage cheese to double up on protein.
Sunflower Seeds
If almonds are not your favorite snack, unshelled sunflower seeds may do the trick. A handful of sunflower seeds give you the same protein as almonds as well as potassium, fiber, and healthy fats. They are great additions to salads or just as a quick snack all by themselves.
Wild Salmon Jerky
Traditional beef jerky is also a solid choice, but the wild salmon brands offer a bit of variety into your daily diet. The “Vital Choice” brand gives you 12 jerky strips per package, with each strip giving you about 7 grams of protein mixed with about 300 milligrams of omega 3 fatty acids. Like almonds and sunflower seeds, jerky never spoils and can be hidden in your duffle bag, briefcase, or gym locker.
Cheese Sticks
Another high protein, portable food is cheese sticks. Cheese comes in many different flavors too, but white cheeses are usually filled with fewer additives and chemicals. A single serving offers 7 grams of protein, and you can easily get pre-packaged, pre-sliced versions in your local grocery store. Add them to a sliced apple or pear to really boost your levels of antioxidants, too.
