Back when our grandparents were younger, Americans were less concerned about cancer-causing foods. However, food back then was also far less processed. Today, we’ve heard all sorts of horror stories and misinformation regarding the foods that we eat. Below are five common foods our Beverly Hills colonoscopy doctor suggests you avoid to remain cancer-free.
1. Canned Tomatoes
While fresh tomatoes are high in the cancer-fighting nutrient of Lycopene, tomatoes in tin cans are lined with toxic chemicals that disrupt the hormone production levels in our bodies. Because tomatoes are naturally high in acid, they absorb the chemical BPA from the can lining. BPA has been linked to several forms of cancer, reproductive disorders, and even heart disease.
2. Microwave Popcorn
Carcinogenic chemicals associated with everything from testicular cancer to liver and pancreatic cancers are all over the popcorn bags. These same chemicals are used to give the treat its buttery flavor and can be found inside the popcorn kernels themselves.
3. Potato Chips
We all love them, and we often can’t seem to get enough. Unfortunately, potato chips contain acrylamide, the same noxious carcinogen found in cigarettes. Unsurprisingly, they are also high in sodium which leads to high blood pressure, and are high in trans-fats. Our Beverly Hills colonoscopy doctor recommends you substitute this snack with air-popped popcorn or apple chips instead.
4. Artificial Sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners are everywhere: in low-calorie chocolate pudding, sugar-free sodas, and even in sugar-free gum. They contain aspartame, an ingredient associated with gastroparesis, cataracts, and convulsions. These actually make us crave sweets even more because they inhibit the body’s ability to regulate daily calorie intake. They also contain DKP, which is a leading contributing factor to several types of brain tumors.
5. Any kind of Soft Drink
Even regular, non-diet sodas are terrible for your health! One can of soda contains ten individual packets of sugar. In fact, medical studies show that even drinking two cans of soda per week can double the risk for pancreatic cancer. The chemicals and carbonates found in all soft drinks are as deadly to tooth enamel as battery acid. There is absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever in soda and soft drinks of any kind. Try switching to water instead. Most people who make the switch to water claim that, after only a few days, they completely lose the craving for those sweeter, carbonated beverages altogether.
